It is gloriously gloomy here in Colorado as I sit down to write. It rained all morning and then the rain changed to huge, heavy flakes of snow coating the ground with icy chunks. Tigger and Hobbes the ginger cats took one look out at their catio and curled up into little warm fur balls on the couch. They have the right idea! Though Colorado IS beautiful in the snow.
Every month I share what I’m working on, what I’m reading, and what I’m watching. Plus a cute kitty photo! Please Subscribe and Share! It’s a quick, free way to help authors like me.
What I’m Working On
While my book As Those Above Fall goes through the final editing process in preparation for a September publication, I’m working on my thriller, The Jehovah Project. It is about a woman who wants to rule the world and the cop who’s trying to stop her.
The main character from As Those Above Fall, Zorah, is suicidal with grief and willing to do anything to change her reality, even if it means breaking the world itself. Aria, the main character in The Jehovah Project, has a god-complex and thinks she can fix a broken world. Zorah and Aria have a bit in common! I love writing about powerful, flawed women.
I am also waiting for the first drafts of the cover for As Those Above Fall. I submitted three concepts to the artist, Rejenne Pavon, and I am looking forward to seeing the magic. As soon as we have the cover, the book can open for preorder! Squee!
If you’d like a teaser of As Those Above Fall, there are two chapters up on my website:
Access the first chapter HERE. This chapter has sexy adult themes, but no violence or blood. Some suggestion of suicidal ideation.
You can also read a middle chapter HERE - content warning for violence and assault.
What I’m Reading
I just finished Diary of a Misfit by Casey Parks. It’s a memoir mystery written by a journalist who used to work with my Aunt Donna at The Jackson Free Press! Which I didn’t know when I started reading it. The book is about not fitting in, the South, and finding one’s place in the world. I relate to all of these themes! I left the south after college just like the author.
I am also working my way through House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. This one gets a lot of attention in the horror book socials but I’ve never read it! It is hallucinatory and strange. Just what I love!
What I’m Watching
My partner and I discovered Hazbin Hotel on Amazon and tore through the first season. Here’s a synopsis from The Hollywood Reporter: “Hazbin Hotel centers on Charlie, the princess of Hell, and her mission of rehabilitating demons as a means of peacefully reducing overpopulation in the realm. She opens a hotel with the hope that her guests will check out and move into Heaven. Most of Hell is skeptical to say the least, but her devoted partner, Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult film star Angel Dust, stand by her. A powerful entity called the Radio Demon reaches out to assist Charlie, giving her crazy dream a chance to become a reality.” The show is very vividly pink, among other things.
