Happy January! I hope everyone is staying warm out there. Here in Colorado we had a VERY cold snap but we stayed warm and cozy with gingercats Tigger and Hobbes.
Every month I share what I’m working on, what I’m reading, and what I’m watching. Plus a cute kitty photo! Please Subscribe and Share! It’s a quick, free way to help authors.
What I’m Working On
I just finished a final edit of my book, As Those Above Fall, and sent it to my editor this week! While that is exciting, I’ll be honest: I’ve read it so many times that I have lost all perspective. It will be nice to step away from it for a bit while my editor gives it another pass. Once both of us are pleased, it will go to line editing, and then it will go to production!
You can read the first chapter HERE. This chapter has sexy adult themes, but no violence or blood of any kind.
You can also read a middle chapter HERE - content warning for violence and assault.
I will soon start working with an artist on the cover, hopefully before the end of the month! I have a concept in mind but I am looking forward to working with a professional to actualize it. As soon as the cover is done, the book will be available for preorder!
What I’m Reading
I joined a Stephen King book club, and we are starting with the Castle Rock books: everything he’s written that is set in the Rock. Did you know that King named Castle Rock after a key location in Lord of the Flies?
I just finished reading the novella The Body for the book club. I don’t know how many times I’ve read that story - a lot. But it was neat to read for geography this time: the book club plans to create a map of Castle Rock based on his descriptions. If we actually accomplish that, I’ll be sure to share it out!
I think Stand by Me is one of the best King movie adaptations. What do you think? What’s your favorite movie based on a Stephen King story? Leave your thoughts in comments!
What I’m Watching:
I recently had the opportunity to show one of my favorite horror movies, The Empty Man, to some friends. This is my third (or maybe fourth?) viewing and it gets better every time! One of my favorite themes is questioning and undermining reality, and this film does it spectacularly. The opening sequence is extraordinary, and the soundscape of the film is wonderful. The end will leave you immediately wanting a rewatch. If you haven’t seen it, check it out!
I also watched The Vigil. I haven’t seen much Jewish horror and the entity - a Mazzik - is quite scary! The film is atmospheric with a building dread. It has some good jump scares and a very likable main character. Recommend!
Cat Picture!
Here are Tigger and Hobbes, being adorable.
