May, 2024: Cover Reveal!
What I’m Working On
My book has a cover! I’m so excited! And here it is:
The artist is Rejenne Pavon, and I may have driven her a bit batty with my tweaks and fiddles. But it came out great! Here is the description on the back cover:
Zorah has always been special. The immense power that flows in her veins, the power she calls witchcraft, can seduce or destroy anyone. But when she loses Alex, the love of her life, she finds herself powerless to bring him back. Spiraling into overwhelming grief, Zorah’s pursuit of her own death wish brings her to Zeke, a vampire with his own seductive power. When Zorah realizes that the key to unlocking the doors to the dead may lie in Zeke’s veins, her desire for death transforms into lust for power. But her journey to bring Alex back will threaten her sanity, Zeke’s life, and the fate of the world itself.
It will be available for preorder SOON!
I am also gearing up to attend StokerCon! I will be on the StokerCon Panel “High-heeled Horror: Feminism and Womanhood in the Horror Genre” - I’ll be joined by Kenya Moss-Dyme, Carina Stopenski, Tiffany Michelle Brown, and Sumiko Saulson. This panel is being moderated by Tamika Thompson. I am SO excited for this one! And I have my homework cut out for me reading all these great authors.
I will also be moderating the panel “Once Human Monsters” - the details on this one are being finalized.
Finally, I am in the process of getting book swag! I have stickers, temporary tattoos, bookmarks, pendants, and earrings. Follow my socials if you want to find out how to score some vampy goodies!
What I’m Reading
This month I read Four Past Midnight as part of The Stephen King Supper Club book club I’m in. So fun to revisit those stories! “The Langoliers” is still just so amazing. During this read I paid attention to the editing: King rambles a bit in all of these stories. It feels like his editor is letting him play: this book was published after he was well established and the pacing is less tight. He runs with details about unimportant characters, descriptions of setting, and the thoughts of characters. It’s interesting!
I also tore through Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher. I don’t typically read fantasy but Kingfisher’s writing is fast, witty, and funny. This is a fairy tale reimagined through a snarky, feminist lens. It’s wonderful.
What I’m Watching
Well, we’re watching Shōgun along with the rest of the world! I’ve never read the book so I’m watching this one blind. The cinematography is beautiful, the characters are interesting and irritating in equal measure - it’s a political drama. Just one that happens to be set in 1600s Japan. I am enjoying the religion: Pure Land Buddhism, Shinto, Protestant Christianity, and Catholic Christianity are all represented. I’m appreciating the way that religion is portrayed as a political tool - it feels accurate and contributes to the gritty feel of the show.
We also watched The Regime - I honestly don’t even know what to say about this one. Kate Winslet is a marvel, as is Matthias Schoenaerts. Andrea Riseborough gives an outstanding supporting performance. It’s wacky, wild, hilarious, and tragic in equal measure.
Cute Kitty Pic!
